500px app returns to the App Store with mature rating and better photo reporting options

500px has returned to the App Store after its short hiatus over nudity concerns. Apple's main issue was that nudity was too easy to come across without any warning even though a recent update has made them harder to find, not easier. This time, 500px has been updated with an added mature rating and better photo reporting features.

It isn't blatantly apparent what changes have exactly been made to the 500px app other than it's had a mature rating added and an easier way to report photos. This was done by a "report photo" button being added in an easy to find place. This could be to address the child pornography concerns that people were rumoring. 500px stated previously that they'd never received such complaints but would take any very seriously.

Whatever 500px did to prevent nudity coming up unless a user wants to see it must have appeased Apple enough to allow the app back into the App Store.

Interlocked is a three-dimensional brain teaser

Back when I was a kid, I used to love crafting ornate puzzle boxes out of Lego. There would be just one way to open the box, by carefully shifting and rotating a bunch of pieces. Well, either that, or breaking the box in frustration.

Interlocked takes that spirit and turns it into a beautiful Flash game. It's a good thing the soundtrack is soothing, because the game itself can get pretty frustrating.

At the start of each level, you're presented with a box built out of blocks in different colors. You can click and drag the mouse to rotate the box any which way. Once you decide you want to shift a part of the box, hit SPACE to switch into "move" mode. You can then click any part of the box and drag it. Of course, you can only move a part as long as nothing is in its way. So it becomes a matter of understanding how the box is built, and what parts you need to move around so you could eventually take the box apart.

It's a tricky, difficult game, but it's a great brain teaser -- and definitely a keeper.

AppSense combines mobile app and device management with MobileNow

AppSense has released MobileNow, a cloud-based service that combines device and application administration features, as it hopes to take a bite out of the growing mobile management market.

As the BYOD (bring-your-own-device) trend grows, IT departments are seeking to maintain control while letting employees use their own smartphones or tablets for work. MobileNow joins a host of management tools that are being developed to help address that challenge.

Microsoft Surface Pro 64GB comes with only 23GB of available storage space

Microsoft’s 64GB Surface Pro tablet ships with about a third of its advertised storage capacity when it goes on sale February 9. While it's common for tablets to have less storage space available because of preinstalled software, the Surface Pro is one of the worst offenders compared to the identical issue faced by Apple's iPad, Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, and Window RT.

Microsoft confirmed the $899 64GB model of the Surface Pro will only have 23GB available for use out of the box – that’s just under 36 percent of the advertised capacity. The rest is taken up by the full Windows 8 Pro install, preinstalled apps and a recovery partition, which make up for the 41GB occupied. The 128GB model of the Surface Pro comes with 65 percent of its advertised storage capacity available, 83GB.

This is not the first time the Surface tablets from Microsoft are in the spotlight due to how little storage space is available for users out of the box. When the Surface RT tablets were introduced in October, the 32GB Surface RT actually came with 16GB free to use (50 percent of advertised capacity), while the 64GB version has 45GB free, which is around 70 percent of the storage advertised on sale.

In comparison with other tablets, Microsoft appears to offer the least available storage space. iOS on an 16GB Apple iPad takes no more than 4GB of space, leaving some 75 percent of the advertised capacity for use. So, for example, the new 128GB iPad actually has some 124GB of available storage, with the OS taking just over 3 percent of the space. For the 128GB Surface Pro, Windows 8 Pro takes 35 percent of the storage capacity – over 10 times more than the iOS.

AVG launches LiveKive cloud sync and backup tool

A while back, we told you about AVG's new LiveKive service, a new cloud synchronization and backup tool which appears to have been named after a vat in which mash is made during the brewing process. But enough about AVG's odd choice of monikers -- LiveKive has launched and is now ready to accept your files into the AVG cloud.

LiveKive takes aim at services like Dropbox and SugarSync, though at the moment it's lagging behind in terms of features. As it stands, LiveKive is only compatible with Windows and OS X. There are no mobile clients yet, though with AVG's strong presence on Android we wouldn't be surprised to see an app arrive in the near future.

The company is offering a heck of a deal right now, however. If you sign up for a paid account during the launch phase, you can score unlimited storage for $80 for a whole year. You can't even score 50GB per year at that price from Dropbox, so if cost and space are more important to you than cross-platform availability, LiveKive might be worth checking out.
